About the course

Every lesson of this course includes a video in English and one with Russian voiceover.

How does one paint not just a city, but a character, an imprint of culture and history? What is the key to the atmosphere of the painting and making a city recognizable, not just visually but also emotionally? The answer is simple. There are techniques, methods and practice. But also, there is an ability to see and note, stay amazed and express one’s emotions at one’s brush point. That is exactly what Amit Kapoor, an Indian watercolorist, teaches us. This is the exact path he invites you to take during his course Around the World with Watercolors. This course has been created based on the marathon of the same name.

Outcome of the course

You will learn:

How to work with perspective foreshortening. That is where the secret of dynamics and depth in the painting lies. When foreshortening is done properly, all the objects are in harmony and smoothly lead attention of the viewer into the depth of the painting, creating an illusion of a three-dimensional space.

How to use warm and cool colors wisely. It’s one of the core principles of painting making it lively and interesting. Colors sing, conveying nuances of light and shadow. The painting doesn’t look dull, it’s the opposite – the viewer wants to look at it carefully, examine and observe every single detail of it.

How to create in a flow state. Pleasure of painting is not just a nice bonus – it’s the mood the viewer is going to see in a watercolor painting. It’s the fuel we need to move on and improve. We’ll learn how to feel joy of creating even when things don’t go smoothly. Or else, what to do it for?

Course outline

lesson 1
01:44
Intermediate
Seaport in Italy
Using linear perspective, we’ll create dynamics in the painting. Buildings, cars, roads, even people – they are all subject to the laws of foreground and background. We’ll learn how to paint shadows and use cool and warm colors properly.
lesson 2
01:21
Intermediate
Port in Monopoli, Italy
Using aerial perspective, we’ll learn how to create an illusion of space. Turquoise water, warm reflections and cool shadows – an engaging work with color and a lot of useful techniques are awaiting for you!
lesson 3
01:20
Intermediate
Cinque Terre, Italy
You’ll learn how to simplify small details in the background to show that they’re there without drawing too much attention. Amit will demonstrate how to make the subject painterly and rich in color without sliding into ‘a coloring book’.
lesson 4
02:09
Intermediate
Metropolis. Madrid
We’ll work with an unconventional viewpoint – we’ll look at the city from the top, with perspective foreshortening, background and a high horizon line. You’ll try to paint a sunlit panorama of buildings and work with thick shadows of the objects closer to the viewer. We’ll show a contrast lighting and simplify small architecture details.

Margri
Самый крутой марафон !
